UPDATE: The time for submission has ENDED. I'll read through all the submissions today and hopefully announce my choice later this evening, latest tomorrow! Good luck friends!

I would also like to note that these will be in 3 month intervals - and that if all goes well, I'll do it again after the 3 months is up. So if you didn't make it this time please don't fret! There will be future openings (hopefully!)

=======

Many years ago, I did a short mentorship program on Deviantart for 3 people - it was unfortunately cut short because of life circumstances (a sudden start in a career) but I've been really thinking on it again and would love to bring it back.

This time, to properly give the attention and focus the mentoree deserves, I'll only be taking one or two students, so as not to overwhelm my own personal schedule.

Taking a page from my former Professor Krishna's book, and as a gift to all my wonderful followers, I'm going to offer this up to everyone.

Several things brought this on, and it would probably be a long and boring read (tl;dr as the internet would say) so I will spare you all the details. Essentially it boils down to:

Bullet; Blue1. I Love helping artists
Bullet; Blue2. I enjoy the enthusiasm of people wanting to learn something new. It feeds my own inspiration.

Now I make no claims to be an expert or master in anything - quite the contrary. I am in a constant state of critique and am hyper critical of every piece I post up here. I also recognize one thing I really want is hard to come by without offering up some dough - and that's a mentor. I'm not downing any artist who offers their mentorship or teaching services for money either - just acknowledging that it is hard for people (especially new artists) to afford what that might cost (the ones I really want run about $600+) and really they are worth every penny. Life just doesn't allow for that kind of expenditure often times, sadly.

Before I get into a long rant, I'll get to the point!

I want to mentor one or two of you. Why? Because I honestly enjoy it. Now what do I need from you? Well..
If you are interested, please note me the following:

Bullet; Blue1. An example of a recent character drawing
Bullet; Blue2. Why you should be chosen/why you would benefit from this.
Bullet; Blue3. What you want to learn specifically.

The mentorship will focus on either character design or digital painting. If you have a preference please let me know, or I will use my own judgement based on your example.

Thats it! The mentorship will be honestly done during my down time between work and personal projects, but I will be going in depth with each assignment I put up - that means red-penning your work and critiquing it. Please PLEASE don't apply if you are only looking for a pat on the head and a 'good job'. You must be able to take critique and -use- it. There may also be a chance I post these 'assignments' and critiques up for other people to follow along with.

Feel free to ask me any questions you have. c: I'll choose someone roughly by AUGUST 16TH (one month!)

TAGGEDDDD

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 6, 2017, 9:18 AM

Tagged by :icontheshadowie-pers0n:

I don't think I've ever done one of these before but WHY NOT.

The rules are simple:
1. Post these rules
2. List eight facts about your character
3. Tag eight other deviants
4. List the names of the tagged character next to their creator's usernames

My tagged character is Ida
The Good Doctor and his Wife (Tower OCT) by MarionetteDolly
Prince of Spades - Sh 01 Sc 09 Clean V13 by MarionetteDolly
Prince of Spades - Saying You're Sorry pg 6 by MarionetteDolly Poor Miss Idalynn by MarionetteDolly
Now the top eight facts about Ida

1. Ida tends to wring her hands when she's anxious, or keep them busy by touching shit. Usually something in her apron pocket - she's a little fidgety.

2. She used to practice ballet as a hobby before getting married.

3.  Ida also is an incredible tinkerer. Having grown up in poverty, she's skilled in taking scrap metal and garbage and turning it into something useful. Mainly though, Ida likes making wind up toys. Again, she doesn't do this as much since she got married.

4. Bomb expert. Specializes in ammunitions.

5. Has trouble making eye contact. She finds it far too intimate and forward.

6. Ida didn't always have a stutter. It is a more recent thing.

7. Her and David have a pet baby alligator, named Crocodile.

8. Her best friend Felix accidentally knocked her tooth out.

There, it is done. Now I bring this task over to you:

:iconb-marble: - David
:iconrfetus: - Chris
:iconedderzzlive: - Aiden
:iconnickswift: - Jackie Sharp
:iconlanimal: - James
:iconraxion: - Ominai
:iconbelkovich: - Aiel

idk ran out of people HAVE AT IT SORRY FOR THE TAGS.

Prince of Spades on Patreon!

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 13, 2016, 10:18 AM

Been quiet around here ‘eh? After CTNX we’ve been busy busy busy (even before!). More animation shots for Prince of Spades, a whole new website, a patreon in progress, and more!

First announcement - I would like to reveal our OFFICIAL animation and comic name to replace our working title…Prince of Spades!

More importantly, I would like to update you all as to the state of our process blog on Tumblr (autanimuscaput.tumblr.com) . By the end of the month, this blog will become private! All new backstage updates will be password protected for our Patreon supporters - however, our new MAIN website and tumblr will be up for all of you to freely look at!

(though feel free to support us on Patreon if you would like to continue viewing our backstage production blog).

Our new home will house all our new, completed animation and comics (yes, comics!). We’ve once again adjusted our concept just a little..for the sake of story and affordability, we will be mixing the two genres. Much of the story will be told in comic form, which can be far more thorough, with a lot of fun, new characters that had otherwise been scrapped from the animation. Animation will be coming in the form of ‘big events’ and ‘end chapter’ finales. Best of both worlds! If things go well in terms of patron support, we would LOVE to continue episodic Prince of Spades animations alongside the comics (the more support we get, the more frequently we can put these out). We pride ourselves in paying all our freelancers fairly, but this is all entirely out of pocket..and animation is very expensive - so we can only do so much on our own.

We’re very excited about our restructuring plan, and hope you will be too. This way the Prince of Spades story will be told much sooner than later.

So, here’s to a new year! Once the transition between the blogs is complete, we will post links here.

Cheers!
-Stephanie & the rest of the team

Holiday Gift-Art

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 17, 2014, 11:30 PM

Happy Holidays friends!

This year, I'll be making free art for two special folks out there! All you have to do is comment on this journal (and specify what you want). HOWEVER!

You may only ask for art for someone else - a friend, significant other, someone that might need a pick me up, what have you. Couldn't hurt to tell me a little about the person too or why you want to gift them some art! :) One will be chosen via randomizer, and the other I will hand select!

I will make selections up until December 22nd <3!

EDIT: If you would like to keep it a secret, just leave a general message in this journal and note me specifics after.

CTNx and Gallery Nucleus Book Sales

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 7, 2014, 5:52 PM

I finally have some time to sit down, so here's the rundown of CTNx!

My husband EdderzzLive and I had the chance to booth this year at CTN Animation Expo in Burbank - and man it was both fun and absolutely exhausting! It was so nice to put faces to so many of you out there that I may have chatted with online or who watch us! We did so many portfolio reviews I think our voices became hoarse by the end of Friday.

One thing we learned was how much time you don't have when you booth - unfortunately, we were so busy manning the fort we didnt get to go out and see everyone we wanted (Friday we stayed at the booth for 12 hours straight with no food), so hopefully next year we remember to utilize our booth buddies and mingle a little more. Thank goodness for b-marble,Rfetus, AndrewMartinD, and Voxeler for running food to us..

If you did meet up with either of us at CTNx and got a portfolio review, please feel free to hit us up anytime! We'd be more than happy to help you continue to tailor your portfolios and offer any insight or assistance we can - we know how hard this industry can be on your own first hand and its always been my priority to help other artists as much as I can.

Our book, Super Cue, is also available for purchase at Gallery Nucleus now in Burbank! If you missed the opportunity and are in the area, you can pick it up there! We also have a few copies remaining that I will make available for purchase online soon - each will be signed and get a free sketch along with your purchase. Remaining originals will also be up for sale. :)

Again, it was a blast and I am so happy to have met you folks! Maybe there will be more cons in the future? Who knows. For now I am finally going to take some time to relax, drink cocoa, and watch cheesy Christmas movies. Ciao!

Looking For Animators (inbetweeners) paid

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 28, 2014, 8:03 AM

The gig comes in 2 parts:

  1. Drawing In-Between frames of animation [in Photoshop]

  2. Coloring those frames upon approval

You don’t need to have a lot of experience in animation but here’s what we look for in an applicant:

  • A strong grasp of art basics - form, volume, shape, mass, weight, proportions, etc.

  • A portfolio/website that demonstrates life & figure drawing - you’ll be drawing quite a bit here

  • Communication skills and abilities - this position is for remote work

  • Great attitude - no negative vibes here

  • An ability to follow directions

  • Your own work setup - Wacom tablet or Cintiq and a copy of Adobe CS3 or higher, Skype and/or Google Chat is a plus.

The guidelines for working with us are simple:

  • Work from anywhere in the world.  Working locally is a plus but not necessary.

  • Work when you are most inspired but be able to meet deadlines

  • Use your best judgement

  • Being able to speak English or Spanish is helpful

The pay is 15 USD per second and you’ll start off with a base 15 seconds.  From there, you can work on more or less seconds as you’re comfortable with.

Send your website link to esteban[at]echo-bridge[dot]com with “Assistant Animator - [Your name]” in the subject line.
